Set 2 Highlights: Tube* -> L.A. Woman -> Birds of a Feather -> L.A. Woman (Standout Segment, *Standout Jam) -> Makisupa Policeman -> P-Funk Medley, Makisupa Policeman, Down with Disease
12/30 delivers yet again. Phish comes out of the gates with an unfinished Wilson transitioning right into the only Sand of 2.0. This is a nice version that had an energy reminiscent of the 10/26/18 with an especially aggressive guitar solo. Out of nowhere, Trey starts playing the Shafty riff for a few measures before the band seamlessly comes in behind him. God I love Shafty especially when it's segued into so cleanly. Shafty continues this segment of segues with a smooth transition into an otherwise standard, albeit very well placed, version of NICU. Well placed versions of Weigh, Cities and Strange Design follow, continuing the excellent and very Phishy flow to the first set. I'm not the biggest fan of Scent of a Mule but when that's your only complaint 50+ minutes into a set, everything's going just fine. A nice Bathtub Gin gets the crowd rocking again before segueing into a funky-as-all-hell, tease-filled 2001 to close the set. The second set opens up with an absolutely filthy version of Tube that begins with some stop-start action before a total disco party that culminates in absolutely exploding into chaos. Out of the chaos emerged the L.A. Woman riff and Trey doing his best to sing the vocals. They jam on L.A. Woman for a few minutes before dropping into a low key groove and transitioning to Birds of a Feather. Solid version of Birds of a Feather that concludes with the whole band dropping into an evil as hell take on the "Mr. Mojo risin'" part of L.A. Woman. From the second L.A. Woman jam we get another clean segue (5th of the night!!!) into Makisupa Policeman. The Parliament Funk appearance that follows is pretty fun and worth hearing. Makisupa Policeman gets finished up before the band goes deep in the 4th quarter with Down with Disease. This version is particularly strong and sees the band using a much lighter touch on the tune before building back up to the Disease riff to close. Phew, that was a lot. Contact and While My Guitar Gently Weeps close out the show in perfect fashion and my favorite show (so far) of this run has concluded.
